IndiaVillageArt (indiavillageart.com) is based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. We are responsible for the personal data described here, as the “data fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
What we collect
When you place an order
- Name, email, phone number, and billing and delivery address
- What you ordered, including any wording or details you give us for a personalised piece
- Any notes you add at checkout
When you request a quote
- Your name, email, phone number, and the options and wording you chose
Payments
Payments are handled by Razorpay. Your card, UPI or bank details go straight to Razorpay and are never seen or stored by us. We receive only a payment reference and whether the payment succeeded.
When you contact us
Whatever you choose to include in your email, call or message.
Why we use it
- To make, pack and deliver your order, and to send you order and delivery updates
- To send design proofs and quotes, and to answer your questions
- To process returns and refunds
- To keep records required by tax and accounting law
- To prevent fraud and keep the site secure
We don’t send you marketing emails unless you’ve asked to receive them, and every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
Who we share it with
Only the people who help us complete your order, and only what they need:
- Payment: Razorpay, to take your payment and issue refunds
- Delivery: our courier partners receive your name, address and phone number to deliver your parcel
- Hosting: our website and store run on servers provided by Hostinger
- Our artists: for personalised pieces, the artist making it sees the wording and design details you gave us. They don’t receive your contact details or address.
- Authorities: where the law requires us to
We never sell or rent your personal information.
Cookies and browser storage
- Cart cookies: a few essential cookies remember your shopping cart for up to 14 days. The cart can’t work without them.
- Personalisation details: when you add a personalised item to your cart, the wording you entered is kept in your browser until you check out, then cleared.
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep order and invoice records for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires (currently up to 8 years). Quote requests that don’t become an order are deleted after 12 months. You can ask us to delete other information sooner (see below).
Keeping it safe
The whole site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Access to customer information is limited to the people who need it to fulfil orders.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that’s wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data, except what we must keep by law (such as invoices);
- stop sending you marketing messages.
